There are of course many different 69th Regiments in various military units, but the one that makes the most sense is the “Fighting Irish” from New York. Since this cocktail is similar to some of the other toddy-esque ones we’ve done in the past, but with an addition of Irish spirit, it connects up with the infantry unit? I guess?
This past weekend was the 69th Herring Festival in Jamesville, North Carolina. I was going to put some actual news in this one but then, herring festival. So there you go.
35. 69th Regiment Punch
(In earthen mug.)
- 1 oz. of Irish whiskey.
- 1 oz. of Scotch whiskey.
- 1 tea-spoonful of sugar.
- 1 piece of lemon.
- 4 oz. of hot water
- This is a capital punch for a cold night.
Tasting Notes:
BN: Well we had no earthen mug, so a copper one seemed still fairly fitting. I did not like this much — I like the mix of the whiskeys and lemon but it needs more sugar to be a toddy I’d enjoy drinking.
PiC: I would like it more with more sugar but I do still like the lemon. You could definitely drink this when you’re cold. [NB: she didn’t see the description of the drink before saying this, so great minds think alike!] Better than the other similar ones we’ve had, certainly.
