Now for the second cocktail of September’s SaloonBox (the first is here). This one I really loved, and was unusual, unexpected, and tasty.
Ginger Piña
(for 2)
- 3.5 oz silver tequila
- 0.5 oz ginger, turmeric, pineapple shrub
- 2.0 oz fresh lime juice
- 1.0 oz simple syrup
- 6.0 oz sparkling water
- Candied ginger (garnish)
Chill two coupe glasses. In a shaker filled with ice, combine all the ingredients except the sparkling water and candied ginger. Shake for 20 seconds. Strain among two coupe glasses. Top with 3.0 ounces of LaCroix sparkling water per glass. Garnish with candied ginger. As you sip, take bites of the candied ginger to really enjoy all the flavors within this cocktail.
Tasting Notes:
BN: First off, I love the simple syrup packets. However, they were kind of tiny, so not sure they’re convenient for drinks like this (had to put a ton in). But for other purposes… Also, shrubs! I think this is the first time I’ve knowingly had a shrub. Tasty tasty tasty. I want to try that on its own. The drink overall was smooth, but could have been a bit bubblier. Nice and tart from the shrub and juice, and you could taste the tequila without it being too alcoholic or bitey. Also, candied ginger is always delicious.
PiC: I like it. Very smooth. I feel like it’s kind of dangerous but you can taste the tequila, at least a little bit. And I love candied ginger, which is always a plus.
