218. Sherry and Egg

218. Sherry and Egg - Hero

Rather than say anything else in introduction for this “drink,” I instead show you the following video, which just about sums up my feelings right now.

Apparently there’s been some research in Japan on using egg whites to catalyze the production of hydrogen, minimizing the amount of energy needed to do so. Which is important, because right now it often takes more fossil fuels to create hydrogen than driving a car running on hydrogen actually saves. If you don’t read the article, at least skip down to the last paragraph, which is great.

220. Sherry and Ice

220. Sherry and Ice - Hero

Come on, these are just getting ridiculous. Ice should not be an ingredient. Unless you blend it, in which case I give it a pass.

However, on the bright side, this one is easy to news. Because sports on ice are fun to watch at the Olympics. Unfortunately, it has not been going so well for Team USA’s figure skaters… I don’t usually watch that much skating but have a fair amount this year; it seems like people are falling a lot more than I would expect. Is this normal? OR IS IT A KOREAN PLOT?!?!?!? Let me know.

219. Sherry and Bitters

219. Sherry and Bitters - Hero

Next on the list of lame two-ingredient cocktails (at least they’re easy to make!), one of my favorite ingredients! Let’s see if it rescues the drink.

Let’s see, how can I put the words in this cocktail into a story about the Olympics? Which is clearly the important news right now… Here’s an interview with the “team mom” for a lot of Team USA – Sherry Von Reisen. Boom.

122. Mulled Wine

122. Mulled Wine - Hero

JERRY WHAT ARE YOU DOING. This mulled wine does not have wine in it! I guess sherry is fortified wine but that’s a whole other kettle of fish. There’s a much more entertaining version of this recipe, 123, which is basically the same thing but an even larger batch and the recipe is written as a song. One day, we will make this. Be excited.

Here’s a piece of news worth mulling over (see what I did there): Cory Booker is now the first senator to testify against another senator in confirmation hearings. He is trying to prevent Jeff Sessions from being approved as Trump’s Attorney General. This probably won’t work, as the Republicans hold a majority (and apparently candidates hardly ever get rejected anyway), but as a show of defiance it probably works out.

86. Sherry Egg Nogg

86. Sherry Egg Nogg - Hero

My dorm in college used to have Sherry Hour every week, or maybe every month… I forget which. Anyways, I was never really a fan, but I had this bottle on hand so this drink worked out fairly well. It also is a little closer to what I think of as actual eggnog, at least compared to the others so far.

All of my interactions with Beefeaters have been very friendly. Granted, I think I only had one, as a tour guide at the Tower of London, but still. Apparently, they drink sherry! Also whiskey. However, I am confused as to why they do not drink gin. You’d think that would be a thing… Otherwise what is Beefeater gin? This is all barely news. I apologize.
